Zombie Strippers (R-rated Special Edition)
From: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment - Year: 2008 - Rated: R - Release Date: October 28, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD 5.1 * Extras! * For some reason, Sony opted to send out the R-rated cut of Zombie Strippers for review (how ‘bout the Blu-ray next time, Sony!). This cut is largely different in that it consists of wider and less detailed shots of the stripteases. I can’t confirm whether or not the difference is sufficient enough to warrant seeking out an unrated cut, but saying as both movies consist of the same running time, I’d wager not. That said, this is a solid transfer and audio mix. Beyond that, the extras aren't anything terribly memorable. I can't recommend anything other than a rental and that's only for the most curious among you.

The Ultimate Matrix Collection (Blu-ray)
From: Warner Home Video - Year: 1999 - 2003 - Rated: R - Release Date: October 14, 2008 - Features: Widescreen * Extras! * - Recommended! Sure all three movies have been released a few times on various home video formats, but fans of the Matrix films finally have the one box set they should own. Warner’s The Ultimate Matrix Collection is an amazing collection of anything and everything Matrix buffs could ever hope to own. Along with the dearth of behind-the-scenes features, we get the films looking and sounding the best they ever have and possibly ever will. Amazon Compare

YPF
From: Image Entertainment - Year: 2007 - Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: October 14, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD 5.1 * If you’re shy about sex, then stay far, far away from YPF. If you have an open mind and enjoy a bevy of well-developed characters and a fine-tuned story, then it's a must. While Image apparently didn’t think including any extras was important, we do get good efforts in the audio and video departments. Amazon Compare

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration [The Godfather / The Godfather Part II / The Godfather Part III] (Blu-ray)
From: Paramount Home Video - Year: 1972 1974 1990 - Rated: R - Release Date: September 23, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * Extras! * - Recommended! Time to throw away that old 2001 box set. Paramount's Coppola Restoration is a must have (and believe me, spring for the Blu-ray). The transfers are sublime and remain true to the classic Gordon Willis cinematography. Two movies are perfection and the third is a solid experience that has improved over time. This set is a revelation, packed with a treasure trove of excellent extra features. Amazon Compare

The General (Ultimate Two-Disc Edition)
From: Kino on Video - Year: 1926 - Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: November 11, 2008 - Features: DD 5.1 * Extras! * - Recommended! One of the great achievements by the best of the silent clowns, it's a film still full of belly laughs and almost incomprehensible stunts and gags. It's a treat both for Keaton die-hards and those new to the party, and that's not whistling Dixie. Amazon Compare

Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition
From: Walt Disney Home Video - Year: 1959 - Rated: G - Release Date: October 07, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD 5.1 * Extras! * - Recommended! It's a flawed masterpiece, but a masterpiece nonetheless. The transfer is gorgeous and there are plenty of extras; if you have the previous special edition it may not be worth the upgrade but one of these is certainly a must-have for any DVD library. Assault! Jack the Ripper
From: Mondo Macabro - Year: 1976 - Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: October 28, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * An intriguing, gory and sexy turn through one of the weirder episodes in Japanese mainstream moviemaking, with a nice transfer and some good supporting extras. Amazon Compare

Syngenor
From: Synapse Films - Year: 1990 - Rated: R - Release Date: October 28, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * DD 5.1 * Extras! * - Recommended! Synapse is distributing Syngenor in a release identical to the 2002 DVD released by Elite Entertainment. In this package you get solid sound and picture and an enjoyable bundle of supplemental material. Rest assured if I didn’t get this disc for review I would certainly be fixing to add it to the collection. A rush of ridiculous entertainment that should please those who get their kicks from trawling the most obscure depths of genre entertainment. It's a no brainer here, folks. Syngenor is recommended. The F Word
From: IFC - Year: 2006 - Rated: Not Rated - Release Date: October 21, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD 5.1 * Extras! * A politically heartfelt and cannily made low-budget picture, but one that overstays its welcome a little bit, and doesn't really challenge anyone's preconceptions. Webs
From: Image Entertainment - Year: 2003 - Rated: R - Release Date: August 05, 2008 - Features: Anamorphic * Widescreen * DD 5.1 * A goofy little title that's not without charm. Image's DVD is nothing special in terms of quality (and certainly not extras). The movie may not be a must own, but give it a rent if you're in the mood for low budget (and high camp) sci-fi.
